Servo tracker coming along

I am really surprised the amount of progress I have done on this face detection software.  Right now I am testing the servos as the software tracks my face.  The idea is that the eye that I am making will follow that person around when they come up to the treat dispenser.  My goal here was just to make sure the servos were reacting to my face movement. Which it seemed to work pretty good.

Here is a photo and quick video.

Halloween for Christmas

For Christmas I asked for a new Raspberry Pi 3.  I got it a day just before Christmas. Which I was told wouldn't arrive until after Christmas.  I also ask for a webcam and an extra power supply for my other Raspberry pi.  So, I have been messing around with opencv and my webcam. The goal is to do face detection so that my eye will follow who ever comes up to the candy dispense.   Trying to figure out how this is all going to look like but have not gotten to that point yet.  Here is the pic of what I have done do far.  As you can see it has picked up my face and it will pick up other faces.  You will see a pic of a circle in there as well.  I am trying to figure out what center is, so the servos can use that as reference. I am having a great Christmas so far and I must say I am having fun.

Servos are working

I was able to get the servos working.  Two servos will be used for one eye.  The servo controller I have is actually pretty good for 14 bucks.  Had to do a little soldering yesterday, but certainly worth it.  If I connected the servos directly up to the RPI, you would notice a little bit of a jerking motion.  Mostly because it can't handle the current draw.  This servo control has its own supply.

Video of all servos moving.

Starting servo control

Later in the week I ordered some servos and a servo control for my Raspberry Pi.  I also bought the lamp shades for the eyes.    The servo controller came today from Adafruit and needed some soldering.  Which I already have completed.  I will have to monkey around with it to see if I can get it working.  The eyes could be a pain if I decide to just pain them. They are plastic and would have to be sanded down if I wanted to pain.  I was thinking instead to just use fabric.

First photo is of servos and lamp shades(eyes) and the 2nd is of the controller.  Still waiting on Raspberry pi that the significant other is getting me.

Face Detection

I am working on a new project to add on to my Treat Dispenser.  I thinking of taking my new Raspberry PI and have it do face detection on the TOTers, so when kids come out a pair of eyes will scope them out.  I think I can do it.  Been already buying thinking to start building.    I need a pair of large eyes so I bought some lamp domes.  Cost me 5 bucks a piece.  Not bad.  Here is what it looks like.  I just need to paint them to look like eyes.  Also just bought some servos to move the eyes.  I have a lot of ideas.  It time they come out.

Dome

I found a person on line that made something that I am looking do.  His eye  notices if someone comes up to the door but it can't lock on to someone when they come up. And that is what I want to do.  If there are multiple toters then it will switch and lock on to someone else.
